VOLTAGE:

Our low voltage / high efficiency approach makes the drive safe, strong and durable.

We develop 4.7 KW by drawing 100 amps at 47 volts.    2/0 cable delivers the power at 1/3 its ampacity.      The Mars motor is 93% efficient and creates very little heat. 

BATTERIES

Our packages include Odyssey's largest Thin Plate Pure Lead AGM batteries for maximum range.  

Run times are upgradeable.  Double your battery bank and you will more than double your run time because larger battery banks are more efficient.   

Doubling your battery bank also results in increasing your total power output because a higher voltage is maintained on a the system under load.

Odyssey 2250 batteries retail for $550 each.

SOLAR

Low voltage systems are easier and more practical to charge by solar.    Sanyo's 55 volt, 210 watt panel is very effective at recharging the batteries while sailing.  Two of these panels are capable of generating enough electricity per day to run the boat for half an hour per day at full throttle, or an hour a day at half throttle.   How often do you use your motor for more than half an hour in a day?

DIESEL

The POLAR DC genset provides for extended range up to 200 miles.

DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS

These electric drive systems are designed by James Lambden, an avid electric sailor and experienced marine electrician.

What differentiates an ATW system from others on the market is attention to quality in every component with an emphasis on efficiency.  

ATW electric drive systems are available for every type of sailor.   

All of these systems use the same brushless permanent magnet motor.   All of these systems are upgradeable.

GEAR RATIOS

We have 10 different gear ratios available.   Since each boat is different, each owner will notice a difference in the performance of any particular gear ratio.    Above the Waterline will swap out the gearbox after the initial trial confirms the suitability or unsuitability of that particular ratio.   We call this our optimization service and it includes monitoring of engine heat, rpm, current draw and voltage.  

REGENERATION

All our drives regenerate.   Systems optimized for regeneration incorporate bigger, slower turning, variable pitch or feathering propellors and  higher ratio gearboxes.    Propellors need to be further away from the hull and saildrives are sometimes employed.

Our systems are designed for how you use your boat.    All our systems are more powerful than conventional diesel installations.     Our diesel electric systems are more powerful and have greater range than traditional diesel installations.

WARRANTY

Above the Waterline, Ltd. hereby warrants goods free from defects in materials and workmanship for 24 months after date of delivery.   The warranty is limited to repair at a repair center of our choice in California, U.S.A.
